Next Time, the #50 Finale

A well done to Jason for last night's game!

Next time is session #50, and the grand finale for Gatavia campaign #3.

So how do we want to do it and what does everyone need to see happen?

  1. assault on dengwurs keep ?
or perhaps we learn of a battle between the old ones and dengwur and have a 3 way war

  2. I was thinking about doing the Dengwur's keep thing, but part of me thinks that we should save Dengwur for another campaign. He seemed only a tangential figure in this campaign, and it was only us for set him free. I'd kind of like to see some future set of adventurers have to make a campaign of taking him back down.

  4. I agree with Dave. There is no way we could wrap up Dengwur. We'll have him for something in the future. I like to wrap up the state of the Jupiter/Saturn religions in the Badlands. It seems to me that part of Rinaldo's beef with Amicus is orthodoxy. Amicus has become more "pagan" with his marriage to the Queen of Hod, a life he has led in secret all his life while pretending at being a cleric of Bor, while Rinaldo - who was once a staunch supporter of the Lawful creed - is a fire-tongued convert in the mold of the Apostle Paul. I could see a future campaign based on this schism.

  5. How did things turn out with the Clockwork Horrors? For that matter, could they be placated? Or is the Masked Archer now firmly in charge of the Temple of Mars Altor? Another thread for future adventure might be related to what is actually in the Mammertine Apocalypse.

    1. We totally spanked the clockwork horrors. Poor Beavis, we used the last wish to bring him back from being digested by a Black Pudding, and then he gets disintegrated by the clockwork chief. He is then reincarnated as a Gnome again.

  6. The decimated Elfwood could become a source of future adventure as well. It will be all chopped up between Marlon's new and previous elf-ish characters Kumon and Spite-Tongue. I could easily see a cruel cold war brewing between the two over the scraps of Elven culture that are left from the hobgoblins attack.

  7. Also, we never did get to Murderface freeing the enslaved dwarves of the Old Ones, nor did he ever get back to the now-empty site of the haunted city of Rathrig.

  8. most of rinaldo's beef with amicus is the orders that amicus gave us to slay this archbishop but amicus stayed out for personal reasons (i know you were running the campaign) but those personal reasons played out in the game as amicus was afraid to face his brother nemico and that we as the skull collectors were all equal we werent your assassins for a family vendetta
i thought playing it this way would add a nice twist to the storyline

Also, I disagree that Amicus gave "orders" so much as facilitated an attack that everyone wanted for revenge. The lawful church had just done a pretty good job of wrecking the Skull Collectors just before with that flight of angels.

I had tried to explain away why Amicus didn't join them in terms of the fact that since his brother was part of the defenses there the Skull Collectors would be particularly vulnerable to auguries, unable to catch them off guard.

However, I agree that it makes for a nice split so I elaborated on it. There are many examples of religion splintering due to different levels of orthodoxy, particularly in the case of conversion as Rinaldo himself was.

  10. How about this, perhaps we advance the timeline to near the one-year anniversary of Amicus's marriage. Then there's some prophecy about Amicus needing to be enthroned on the former island of the dead. We have each of the campaign judges create one bitchin' encounter to plow through to reach the hidden throne.

    1. That could work, Amicus hasn't settled the actual city of Noviodunum yet. I'm not sure what everyone else's take is, though. Maybe we just do a "telescopic ending" and write a document for when we are ready to come back?

Robert, what do you feel you need to wrap up this chapter for Rinaldo? Anyone else?

  11. i don't remember hearing about the augury reasoning behind amicus staying out of it but that is fair enough
i sort of saw rinaldo's lawful history only relevant to parts of his personality as not being overly selfish
that neutrality was the only way to national equilibrium he has vowed to always fight chaotic forces but takes the approach of leave me alone and ill leave you alone when it comes to lawfull
and with rinaldo now being level 11 he plans to have a ritual spell "harvest" permanently around the yoesville diggers area to increase the wealth of the land bank rolling his interests on the eastern side of the river at the former death troopers camp to continue taking the fight against the old ones and dengwur even with a small army at his disposable he can use geurilla tactics again them and hit them where they are not

I did a poor job of explaining that vulnerability, and the fact that we ended up running late made it difficult.

Maybe I've read way too much bible study? Paul was a serious dick before he conversion, and was later a serious dick for Jesus.

    3. Side note: "Serious Dick for Jesus" should be a band name.

  12. so perhaps for any future campaigns in gatavia 4
rinaldo can be a sort of bad axe jack sort of character dishing out quests to the next group of adventurers seeking to make a name for theirselves
